What is The Math Tool Center?

   The Math Tool Center is a collection of tools for teaching mathematics especially selected for use by classroom teachers in Cherokee, Spartanburg, and Union Counties. Manipulatives, calculators, computer software, resource books, and videos in the center may be checked out by teachers for use in their classrooms. Normally, materials are checked out for a period of two weeks, but the checkout period may be renewed if the materials are not requested by other teachers. School districts in Cherokee, Spartanburg, and Union Counties provided funds to purchase materials each year during the period 1992-95. An advisory board of teachers from each of the participating districts made recommendations regarding the operation of the center and selects materials to be purchased.

 Where is The Math Tool Center located? When is it open?

    The center is located on the campus of the University of SC Spartanburg in the Library. The Library is open Monday-Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 11:00 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Saturday 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., and Sunday 2:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

 How does a teacher check out materials?

    Teachers may check out items from The Math Tool Center by asking a librarian at the circulation desk for the item using the assigned number in this brochure. The librarian will retrieve the item and ask the teacher to complete a sign-out card.

Can materials be reserved for a particular date?

    Yes! Materials may be reserved for a particular date by calling Beverly Skinner, administrative assistant for the Piedmont Math and Science Hub, at 503-5545 (fax 503-5574). If Beverly is out of the office when you call, please leave a message with a return number where she can reach you. She will get back to you as soon as possible to determine availability and confirm the reservation.

Is delivery service available?

    Yes, through the local district office and courier service. Request forms are online.  Completed forms requesting materials should be faxed to the Piedmont Hub (864-503-5574). Requests may also be phoned in to the Hub (Spartanburg County Districts: 503-5548; Cherokee, Spartanburg District 1, and Union only: 1-800-781-6156). Leave your name, school, school district, number and description of the item you are requesting if you get the answering machine. Materials will be delivered from The Math Tool Center to each district office and to the schools by UPS; materials being returned to The Math Tool Center will be picked up from each district office at the time of delivery.
