Historical Perspectives
for the
Mathematics Classroom

A one credit course (15 contact hours) aimed at developing an appreciation for mathematical discovery and process.  Using the history of pi as a thread, participants are led through the ages to consider the evolution of mathematical thought.  The relevance of history to the topics they teach and how their students learn is explored.

Group projects require the participants to trace the history of a single mathematical topic (such as the history of pi) relevant to a course that they teach.
