Using Excel for graphing more than one set of ordered pairs on the same graph

To graph two sets of ordered pairs (e.g. two functions or series) on the same set of axes, do the following:

With your x-values and y-values in columns, click the graph tool at the top of the screen. This will open the Chart Wizard.

Select the XY (Scatter) chart type and pick the subtype you prefer (e.g. the connected points). Click NEXT.

In Step 2 of the Chart Wizard, click the Series tab.

For Series 1, put the cell addresses of the x-values and y-values in their respective boxes. (Again, you may have to drag the chart Wizard to expose the data, or you may wish to type in the cell addresses of the data.)

Add Series 2 by clicking Add under the Series Window. Put the cell addresses of your second set of x-values and y-values in their respective boxes. Both graphs should appear on the same set of axes. Click NEXT.

Step 3 of the Chart Wizard allows you to put titles and labels on your graph. Do as you wish and click NEXT.

In step 4, you may choose to put the graph on your present sheet or on a new sheet. Choose and Click FINISH.

The graph will appear selected on the sheet you chose and you may drag it to a suitable location.

EXTRA: If you wish to change, for example, the numbers on the x-axis of your graph, point to the x-axis, RIGHT click and choose FORMAT AXIS. Click the SCALE tab and set the max, min and unit to the values you want. Click OK
