Laura Hooks

Dr. Laura M. Hooks served as an adjunct instructor at USC Upstate for six years prior to becoming a full-time member of the faculty in 2001. She received her B.A. in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina. She earned an M.Ed. in Special Education with an emphasis in Learning Disabilities from the University of South Carolina and an M.Ed. in Public School Administration from Clemson University. Her Ph.D. was earned at the University of South Carolina in Early Childhood Education. Prior to joining the academic ranks, Dr. Hooks taught for eight years in public schools in North and South Carolina and served as director of a preschool in West Virginia. Her research interests include parent involvement, the inclusion of children with special needs within classrooms serving typical learners, program quality and the use of professional development schools in teacher education programs. Dr. Hooks is married to Dr. Greg Hooks who serves as the head men’s soccer coach at USC Upstate. They have two sons, Eric and Daniel.
