Mission Statement
The mission of the history faculty is threefold.
First, to teach students how to draw meaning from the past and prepare
them to be informed citizens of a glabal community. This student-oriented
department provides individual advisement on scholastic development and
career opportunities, while enriching the lives of the students through
History Club activities, scholarships and achievement awards. Second, to
provide historical expertise for the metropolitan community. Third, to
advance and promote the study of history through academic research and
involvement in local, national, and international professional organizations.
Vision
The history faculty will lead students into the twenty-first
century by raising the standards of critical thinking; by encouraging internship
programs; by linking historical research and professional development to
the needs of the metropolitan community; and by providing a global, national
and local historical context for current events.
