Thursday, December 4: Last day of class. Reviewed for the final exam next Thursday.
Tuesday, December 2: Returned Test 3. Began reviewing for the final exam. We will continue on Thursday. Note that we will meet at 8:30 on Thursday.
Thursday, November 27: Thanksgiving Holiday.
Tuesday, November 25: Test 3. Distributed a review sheet for the final exam (get it on line).
Thursday, November 20: Discussed worksheet for Chapter 3. Reviewed for Test 3 on Tuesday.
Tuesday, November 18: Finished 3.4 and covered 3.5 on rational functions. Work on the practice problems for these sections. This completes the material for the course. Test 3 will be Tuesday, Nov 25. Distributed a worksheet for Chapter 3 and a review sheet for the test (get both online). Thursday, we will discuss the worksheet and review for the test.
Thursday, November 13: Finished Sec 3.1 and moved to 3.3 on polynomial functions. We are doing this section in a less algebraic and more conceptual way. Discussed, end behavior and zeros of polynomial functions; Tuesday, we will cover multiplicity and basic graphing. Homework # 15 is available until tonight, # 16 until next Tuesday and # 17 until Thursday, Nov 20.
Tuesday, November 11: Finished Sec 4.6 and began Chapter 3. Covered the basics of quadratic functions in Sec 3.1. We will examine some applications of quadratic functions on Thursday. Work on the practice problems for these sections. Homework # 15 is available until Thursday; Homework # 16 (4.6) is available until Tuesday, Nov 18; Homework # 17 (3.1) is available until Thursday, Nov 20.
Thursday, November 6: Discussed Test 2. Covered Sec 4.5 and began 4.6. Work on practice problems for these sections. Distributed a worksheet for Sections 4.5 and 4.6. Get a copy online. Homework # 15 (4.5) is available until next Thursday, Nov 13.
Tuesday, November 4: No class - Election Day
Thursday, October 30: Dr. Spencer met and returned tests from Tuesday.
Tuesday, October 28: Test 2. I will not be here Thursday. Dr. Spencer will come to the classroom at 9:00 am to return the tests to you. If you decide to withdraw from the class, go to Hodge 200. Someone there can sign your drop slip in my absence. Note also that class does not meet Tuesday, Nov 4 due to Election Day.
Thursday, October 23: Discussed the worksheet handed out on Tuesday. Distributed a review sheet for Test 2 (available online). Reviewed for Test 2 on Tuesday, October 28.
Tuesday, October 21: Completed Sec 4.3 and covered 4.4. Work on the practice problems for these sections. We are going to stop here and have Test 2 on Tuesday, October 28. The test will cover Sec 2.5-2.7 and 4.1-4.4. Distributed a worksheet for Sec 4.2-4.4. You can get a copy online (web page or MML). Homework # 12 is available until Wednesday; Homeworks # 13 (4.3) and # 14 (4.4) are available until Tuesday, October 28. Thursday, we will review for the test.
Thursday, October 16: Completed Sec 4.2 on exponential functions. Began 4.3, covering up to logarithmic functions. Work on the practice problems for these sections. Homework # 10 is available until tonight; Homework # 11 is available until Monday; Homework # 12 (4.2) is available until Wednesday, October 22.
Tuesday, October 14: Discussed worksheets that were handed out last week. Finished Sec 4.1 and began 4.2 on exponential functions. Work on practice problems for these sections. Homework # 10 is available on MML until Thursday; Homework # 11 (4.1) is available until Monday.
Thursday, October 9: Fall Break
Tuesday, October 7: Finished Sec 2.7 and began 4.1, covering up to finding the inverse function. Distributed a worksheet with a an application of composition of functions ( I will bring answers on Tuesday) and a worksheet for Sec 2.5-2.7 / 4.1. You can get either of these on my web page or on MML. Remember Homework # 9 available until tomorrow (Wednesday); Homework # 10 (Sec 2.7) is available until Thursday, Oct 16. Class will not meet Thursday - Fall Break.
Thursday, October 2: Covered Sec 2.6 and 2.7 up to composition of functions. Work on the practice problems for these sections. Homework # 9 (Sec 2.5 and 2.6) is available on MML until next Wednesday, Oct 8.
Tuesday, September 30: Returned Test 1. Covered Sec 2.5. Work on practice problems for this section.
Thursday, September 25: Test 1
Tuesday, September 23: Discussed worksheet for Chapter 2. Reviewed for the test. Remember that all MML homework assignments (1 - 8) are open until Thursday. I will be in class about 7:45 am Thursday for those that want to start the test a little early.
Thursday, September 18: Finished Sec 2.3 and covered 2.4. This finishes the material for Test 1 on Thursday, September 25. Distributed a review sheet for Test 1 and a worksheet for Chapter 2 (get both on my web page or on MML). I will bring answers for the worksheet on Tuesday and we will review for the test. Homeworks # 7 and # 8 are available until next Thursday. Homeworks #1 - # 5 are also available until next Thursday.
Tuesday, September 16: Discussed worksheet for Chapter 1. Completed Sec 2.2 and began 2.3 on linear functions. Covered up to introduction of slope. Work on practice problems for these sections. Thursday, we will finish 2.3 and move to 2.4, the last section before the first test. If we finish 2.4 on Thursday, Test 1 will be on Thursday, September 25. Homework # 4 is available until tonight; Homework # 5 is available until Thursday; Homework # 6 (Section 2.2) is available until next Tuesday.
Thursday, September 11: Began Sec 2.2 on functions, working up to evaluation using f(x) notation. We will finish this section on Tuesday. Homework # 3 is available until tonight; Homework # 4 is available until Tuesday. Homework # 5 is available until next Thursday. If you want me to look at your work on the Chapter 1 worksheet, turn it in to me before Monday.
Tuesday, September 9: Covered Sec 2.1 on graphing equations and the circle. Work on practice problems for this section. Homework # 1 is available until tonight; Homework # 2 is available until tonight; Homework # 3 is available until Thursday night; Homework # 4 (Sec 1.7, 1.8) is now available until next Tuesday. Distributed in class a worksheet for Chapter 1. If you wish to do it and turn it in, I will grade for you (grade will not count). There is no penalty is you do not do it. You can get the sheet online under Handouts.
Thursday, September 4: Covered inequalities and absolute value in Sec 1.7 and 1.8. Work on practice problems for these sections. Homework # 3 is available on MML until Thursday, Sept 11.
Tuesday, September 2: Completed discussion of solving quadratic equations in Sec 1.4 and 1.5. Work on practice problems for this section. Homework # 2 is now available on MML until midnight Tuesday, Sept 9.
Thursday, August 28: Discussed some applications in Sec 1.2, covered basics of imaginary numbers in 1.3 and solving quadratic equations by factoring in 1.4. W We will finish 1.4 on Tuesday. Homework # 1 is available on MyMathLab (MML) until midnight next Thursday, Sept. 4.
Tuesday, August 26: Discussed sets of numbers and began Chapter 1; covered linear equations in Sec 1.1. Thursday, we will examine some applications and begin quadratic equations.
Thursday, August 21: Syllabus and introduction to class. Ina Minsky discussed the Supplemental Instruction program that is available to students.
