Group I:  Students should take English 101 their first semester and English 102, their second.  These courses provide skills needed in most of the other classes offered at USCS.

Group II:  Two factors determine the mathematics course you take: your score on the math placement test and the mathematics requirement for your major.  You take the placement test on-line, and the results are put in your advisement folder.  The test results indicate which mathematics course you are currently prepared to succeed in.  Different majors have different math requirements.  See the table below.

Group II:  The second math course may also be specified by major.  Also, consider the possibility of taking a statistics or logic course.  Majors that require Math 120 or higher as the first course will accept two statistics courses to meet the Group II requirement.  Students who take Math 121 as their first mathematics course should not follow it with Math 126 as the second.

Group III:  Courses often used to meet this requirement are Music 110; Art History 101, 105, or 106; Theater 161 or 162.  Art studio and music performance classes are also acceptable in some majors.

Group V:  Some majors require particular science courses.  Biology 101 and 102, Chemistry 111 and 112 are designed only for science, some pre-professional, and computer science majors.  Students seeking a bachelor of arts degree usually take one lab science (4 credit hours) and one science without a lab (3 credit hours).  Geography 201 and 202 count as science courses; other geography courses count as social sciences.

Group VIII.  Undeclared students should not attempt a senior seminar.  This requirement is usually a senior capstone course in a major, once one has been selected.
